JEWEL of the Seas is the latest ship to moor in Weymouth Bay during the coronavirus lockdown.

According to Cruise Mapper, Jewel of the Seas, Queen Elizabeth and Britannia are off the Dorset coast along with Queen Victoria, Marella Explorer 2, Aurora.

The cruise ships are moored on the Dorset coast because the bay offers "secure anchorage with the prevailing weather", according to the RNLI.

The huge ships can be seen across Weymouth and as far as Portland. They have also been admired from beaches by tourists and residents.

Among the most noticeable vessels is Jewel of the Seas, which is among the many ships in Royal Carribean's fleet.

The ship was first spotted in Weymouth Bay on Thursday, September 10 and has moored up throughout the week.

First launched in 2004, the £350 million cruise ship took its maiden voyage in May that year.

The mighty vessel sails around the world and offers guests a luxurious trip to the Caribbean, St Lucia or around the Mediterranean.

With a capacity of more than 2,000 passengers, the ship features multiple restaurants, a wine bar, swimming pools, pool bars, outdoor movie screen, spa and casino.

A Youtube Channel, Cruise Passion, released a video earlier this year to showcase the cruise ship's features.

The video, which can be seen below, shows its pool, gym, various restaurants, and range of rooms that guests can book.

The Jewel of the Seas completed a £20 million renovation in April 2016, which included 42 new staterooms, new restaurants, improved Wi-Fi and internet access as well as renovate its spa and shops.

It is unclear when the mighty vessel will depart the Dorset coast or go on another cruise.

Royal Caribbean has suspended all sailings until Saturday, October 31, with aims to resume operations from the Sunday, November 1.

However, in some instances, the cancellations are expected to be kept for longer.

European and Transatlantic sailings are cancelled through the end of November and  Australia sailings until December 31.

Reviews on Cruise Critic have praised its onboard service and "loved" the ship's layout and range of activities on offer for guests.

One review reads: "Although we've enjoyed all of the cruises we have taken, this was our favorite and the most adventurous.

"We chose excursions to include zip-lining, horseback riding, parasailing and whale watching.

"Every one of them was organized and fun. We never felt unsafe anywhere.

"We were most surprised by Guatemala and how beautiful it is. We went to the ancient city of Antigua and saw three volcanoes on the drive."

Dorset Marine Policing Team said that although it might be tempting to get a closer look or a ‘cheeky selfie’ with the vessels, there is a 50-metre exclusion zone around the ships.
