I have had the Echo delivered through my door for the last 36 years and this is the first time I have felt strongly enough to write a letter for your letters page.

I read today about the large BBC salaries, whilst at the same time I was arranging to restart paying my TV licence fee, which I have been receiving free for the last two years.

I feel it is unjust that I am forced to pay a licence fee to the BBC, when I do not watch their television channels or listen to their radio stations, so why should I be forced to pay them a licence fee?

If we were forced to pay the same fee to ITV or any other supplier, then there would be uproar. But because we are British, we take it on the chin and calmly pay up.

The television licence fee is a dinosaur that will go into extinction like the dog licence and the radio receiving licence. So, in a hundred years from now, you can’t tell me that we will still be expected to pay a television receiving licence, so the writing is on the wall. BBC give up the television receiver licence and the sooner the better as far as I am concerned.
