AN injured climber was airlifted to safety on Portland.
Coastguards were alerted to the casualty yesterday afternoon.
The climber had fallen eight feet while climbing cliffs at Freshwater Bay.
A spokesman for Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We were paged at 13:20 to a person with an ankle injury south of the pumping station on Portland.
"Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team were on another tasking, as we arrived on scene they joined us having completed their incident.
"The casualty was unable to bear weight and therefore immobile.
"Coastguard Officers made their way to the casualty and stabilised the ankle. Due to the location it was decided to request a helicopter for extraction.
"R175 from Solent winched the casualty and transferred to an awaiting ambulance."
