It’s Emily and William here this week writing about our favourite old TV programmes. With the evening weather getting colder, we want to stay in and watch a bit more TV.

I, William still like watching programmes like the A Team, Knight Rider, Only Fools and Horses, Porridge and the Magic Roundabout. Some are very funny and I also like a bit of action. I especially love the episode in Only Fools and Horses when Trigger lifts up the bar and Del Boy falls on the floor. It always makes me laugh. Just like when they open the till in Open All Hours. It’s great to laugh!

I, Emily don’t watch a huge amount of telly, but when I do, I really enjoy watching shows like Open All Hours and The Good Life. They are very funny and cheer me up on a bad day. Most characters are now quite old and the programmes are dated, but were of their time. I love the Good Life best, and have watched all the episodes, which bring lots of laughter to the house. I tried the new Open All Hours but didn’t think it was as good as the original, as the humour was different and I missed the characters.

After talking with William, we realised that we used to like many of the same TV programmes like Andy Pandy, Bill and Ben, Blue Peter, Thomas the Tank Engine and Fireman Sam. Although we prefer the originals, it’s good they’ve been updated for a modern audience to enjoy too.

We wonder if TV programmes for children today aren’t as good. Do all the silly creatures making noises and making up words help children to learn as much as the ones we used to love?
