MORE than 1,250 visits have been made each week to two Dorset leisure centres since they reopened their doors following lockdown.

Blandford Leisure Centre and Weymouth Swimming Pool & Fitness Centre both reopened their doors on July 25 after four months of lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic – and bosses said they had been busy with users since.

Both centres – run by Everyone Active in partnership with Dorset Council – have additional safety measures in place including one-way systems, enhanced cleaning regimes and structured sessions.

Numbers through the doors show that members were keen to get back in the gym, with over 1,250 weekly visits at both centres.

Attendance in group exercise classes across the centres have also been well received with classes operating at over 85 per cent capacity. Due to increasing demand, additional class have now been added to the timetable from September 2020.

In addition, swimming lessons and bookable lane swimming are proving popular. Since the pools fully reopened at Blandford Leisure Centre and Weymouth Swimming Pool & Fitness, classes are at over 83% capacity and lane swimming at the facilities has seen over 600 weekly visits.

Rob Slocombe, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, commented: “The response we’ve received from our members has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re so pleased to see many new and returning members through our doors.

“Our doors are open to everyone and we’re happy to provide tours for anyone who would like to visit our centres to see the changes we’ve implemented to keep everyone safe.”
