A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft from 'a number of people'.
Officers from the Weymouth and Portland Neighbourhood Policing team detained the man on The Esplanade last night (Saturday) at around 9.30pm after he was seen acting suspiciously in the town centre.
A spokesman said: "Enquiries were subsequently made with town centre CCTV operators. As a result of the enquiries and the circumstances that the male was found in, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft from a number of people in the town centre.
"A 44-year-old male, who is not local to Weymouth, has since been issued with a police caution."
