A father with a ‘contagious smile’ who made Weymouth his home has passed away.

John Francis Hart, a mechanic, moved to Weymouth after spending many happy holidays in the town.

He was suffering from cancer and received much help and support from the local church community.

Growing up on Jersey, John attended school there.

He is described as ‘fun, caring and cheeky’ by his daughter Melissa.

She said: “My dad was surrounded by the people he loved when he passed. He will be remembered for the love of his family and the joy he gave to everyone he met. He had a heart of gold and cared for everyone.

"The people of Weymouth helped my dad cope with the symptoms...Weymouth brought my dad back to us."

John died on September 7 with his wife and daughter by his side. His funeral was held on September 18 at Test Valley Crematorium in Romsey.
