A WOMAN charged with the manslaughter and attempted robbery of a Weymouth pensioner has today admitted to previously stealing from the pensioner.

Aaron Kirk Brown, 38, and from Weymouth, and 28-year-old Hannah Jayne Rebecca Day, of no fixed address, have both denied the manslaughter and attempted robbery of 75-year-old John Cornish.

Day had also denied stealing money and a bank card from Mr Cornish on May 6, 2019 - four months before his death.

But at Winchester Crown Court today, she admitted the theft, along with five further counts of fraud, relating to her using the stolen bank card on five occasions over the period May 6-7 2019.

It is alleged that Brown and Day assaulted Mr Cornish in his home on The Esplanade on September 6 last year, causing him to have a heart attack and die. Police and ambulance services attended the home the next morning after Day called 999. It is also alleged that the reason they did this was to rob Mr Cornish of bank cards and cash.

During a trial at Winchester Crown Court, the jury has heard that Mr Cornish suffered 42 external injuries, including being 'prodded' in his face with a sharp instrument or knife, prior to his death. There was bruising to his arms, torso, head and face. There was also bruising to his neck, as well as fractures to his larynx and a bone in the neck area.

The pair have since blamed each other for Mr Cornish's death.

The trial continues.
