Several staff members and students from Bincombe Valley Primary School in Littlemoor and Manor Park First School in Dorchester are self-isolating after positive coronavirus cases were confirmed.

The person with symptoms at Bincombe Valley was last in school on Tuesday, October 6 and several staff members and students have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Leif Pallister said: “The school will remain open during this period.

"The school has been working closely with our team at Public Health England South West and Dorset Council to ensure high standards of hygiene and social distancing are maintained and ensuring all the necessary measures are in place.”

Sam Crowe, Director of Public Health for Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Councils, said: “We are aware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Bincombe Valley Primary School in Weymouth.

"The school is working closely with Public Health Dorset, Dorset Council and Public Health England South West to ensure that all necessary measures are being met.

“All close contacts of the confirmed cases have been notified and advised to self-isolate for 14-days.

"Contacts of the confirmed case should get tested if they go on to develop symptoms. Even if people test negative, they must still self-isolate for 14-days.”

Mr Crowe issued a similar statement about Manor Park and said all close contacts were being advised to isolate.

It comes days after cases of coronavirus has been confirmed at Radipole Primary School in Weymouth.

According to reports, two classes of students and several members of staff have been told to self isolate as a precaution.

There have also been reported cases at Dorchester Middle School, Westfield Arts College and Gillingham Secondary School.

All the schools remain open.
