It never fails to amaze me how councillors suddenly think they know everything about business and how to run one when the majority have never had the guts to put their money where their mouth is.

I refer of course to the plan to deprive Mr Peter Townsend of his living.

Have these councillors not ever wondered why the Pavilion, Alexandra Gardens, Pier Bandstand, all beach concessions (ex deckchairs) most guest houses and hotels are left on lease or licence?

Because the council are not able to compete with private businesses. Having been a councillor for 14 years, dealing with these concessions it was obvious that letting them out was by far the best solution.

Before taking away a person’s livelihood, may I suggest that they look at themselves and do their council work not for expenses but for pride in the town we live in.
