A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl from Dorset has raised over £350 for Origin, a not-for-profit organisation raising funds for humanitarian projects in Africa.

Poppy Miller from Charlton Marshall and her younger sister have been drawing pictures to make into magnets and selling then for £1 each, raising over £120 for 25 magnets.

Siobhan Miller, Poppy’s mum, said that her daughter became inspired to raise money following a talk at her school two years ago.

She added: “She came home so animated telling us 'mummy, I have some new friends and they live in Africa and they need our help'.

“So Christmas time came and, first of all, she asked Santa for clean water for Africa and then we bought her one of Origins children's t-shirts as she knew the money would help her new friends

“As a person Poppy simply has the biggest heart for such a little girl. She is so bright, kind, cheerful and happy and always so thoughtful and caring for others - she has always been this way and loves people and helping others.”

As a means of saying thank you, Origin contacted Poppy to see if she would like to design their new children's t-shirt.

After producing many different designs, Poppy’s final design, named 'Rainbow Skies', was selected and is now available to purchase online.

Siobhan added: “Poppy is just so excited to have raised so much, each time she gets a donation she bounces round the house. Whether it's 50p, £1, £5 or more it means so much to her and she jumps up and down clapping.

“She is so thankful and all she would love is for people to like the new tee she has designed and buy it so she can help raise more money for Origin to support the humanitarian projects in Africa.

“As Poppy's parents, my husband Stuart and I feel so incredibly proud of her. She is one in a million and we are blown away by her maturity and deep understanding and care for others.”
