Trustees at Portland Museum have welcomed the news that it has been awarded more than £70,000 from the Government's Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) Culture Recovery Fund.

The grant will be used to help maintain the museum through the remainder of the year and ensure the museum is Covid-safe for reopening in 2021. It will underpin work to offer improved accessibility and the continuation of essential conservation activities.

The museum's chairman of trustees Angela Scott said: "This is an important grant which helps to enable us to carry out vital work in a number of areas while injecting some terrific energy back into the heart of the museum and our local community.

"Our museum really packs a punch as our island packs more history into each square metre than anywhere else I know."

The museum’s manager, Lucy Watkins, its trustees and volunteers continue to work behind the scenes to develop new projects including ‘The History, Myths and Legends of Church Ope Cove’ and the new ‘pop up’ museum funded by Arts Council England, Art Fund and South West Museum Development.
