'Schools aren’t welfare providers', Tory MP Richard Drax tells us as he defends voting against extending free school meals provision to holidays during the pandemic.

Get real Richard, of course they are.

They run breakfast clubs for children because they know a hungry child won’t learn and provide pastoral care to every pupil and student throughout their education.

Stop living in the Victorian age. Denying meal vouchers to children in poverty in the holidays during a pandemic is straight out of Dickens - a mean spirited grinding down of families often unable to work because of the virus.

Paying consultants £7,000 a day and spending the GDP of a small country on a failing test and trace system but not paying a few million to give hungry children a meal is simply grotesque.

There’s a role for you at Christmas Mr Drax - Scrooge.
