IT IS good that Dorset Council is updating residents on the coronavirus situation (Echo, October 23) but they really must be frank with us. Sam Crowe, director of Public Health Dorset, is quoted as saying that, “…after seeing that sharp rise in the first two weeks of October it does look as though infections are starting to settle down.” But the Echo also reports 57 new cases the previous day, which was more than we have ever seen before.

And official figures show that the seven-day rolling average is up 35% on the previous week. Is that what you regard as settling down, Mr Crowe?
