A couple who met while working at Monkey World are celebrating their engagement.

Sam Richardson, 28, popped the question to Cerys Jeremy, 28, on a perfectly sunny outing to Portland Bill just before lockdown.

The couple, who bought a house in Weymouth last year, plan to get married in 2022.

Cerys, who's from Cardiff, said: "We got engaged on November 4. Sam had had the ring since September and was waiting for the perfect time to pop the question, but as time went on and lockdown 2 got announced he didn't want to wait another month.

"The weather was beautiful and we took a trip to Portland Bill with the dogs as we love to do on our days off.

"I didn't have a clue and it was just perfect.

Dorset Echo:

"Afterwards he did tell me about the many times he had taken the ring out with him and never had the opportunity to ask but instead he'd taken photos of it with me being totally unsuspecting.

"It has been the perfect end to a weird and crazy year."

Dorset Echo:

Sam is originally from Kiddermister and he met and fell in love with Cerys while the pair were working at Monkey World.

Cerys said: "We have worked all through lockdown so our lives haven't changed that much this year, apart from obviously not being able to celebrate our engagement properly with our friends and family.

Dorset Echo:

"We will hopefully plan some sort of party after lockdown ends so both our families can celebrate with us. As we all live so far away it will be hard as welsh restrictions are different to ours but hopefully we will find a way to all celebrate together!

"We are not planning on getting married until 2022 because we would love a big wedding and I don't want restrictions, social distancing and masks to be a part of it so I'm hoping by 2022, this madness is all over, fingers crossed!"
