DELAYS are expected on a key Dorset route due to roadworks with temporary traffic lights set to be in place.
The A353 between the junctions of White Horse Holiday Park and C42 Mills Road in Osmington will be repaired for three days between Tuesday, November 17 until Thursday, November 19.
Dorset Council workers will install two temporary traffic lights to manage traffic and keep crews safe during the maintenance.
The A353 is one of many key roads being repaired by Dorset Highway's maintenance crews across the county this month as workers continue to keep key routes in good condition during lockdown.
The Travel Dorset service, which is run by Dorset Council, warns users that delays are expected in the area and to allow plenty of journey time.
A353 serves as a key road for motorists travelling towards Wareham and East Dorset via the A352.
David Clegg, Dorset Highways service manager for network operations, explained the A353 is being patched ahead of resurfacing scheduled for next year.
He said: “We use a wide range of surface treatments, ensuring that roads get maintenance tailored to their individual needs.
“The A353 is being ‘patched’ as part of our routine maintenance works and this will be followed with a surface dressing treatment next year.
“The patching work removes and resurfaces the worst damage along the road. Surface dressing then treats the whole road – sealing it from water damage and restoring skid resistance.
“This is a much more cost-effective practice and a more efficient use of resources compared to resurfacing an entire road, when it still has stretches of surface in a good condition.
“Our aim is to not only extend the life of the road, but to reduce the environmental impact of doing so.”
The repairs come as another major Dorset route, the A352, will close for major roadworks next week.
A 6,095-metre (3.7 mile) section of the A352 through the villages of Longburton and Holnest between Dorchester and Sherborne will be shut to allow Dorset Council to resurface the A-road.
The A352 will be closed between 9am and 4pm on Monday, November 16 until Friday, December 2. The road will be open during the evenings and at weekends.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Council explained the road condition had "deteriorated" and work will be carried out in two phases.
