A TEENAGER died during a dive, an inquest heard.
Oscar Montgomery, 17, was last seen near Church Ope Cove, Portland, on May 27 this year at about 5pm. His body was found on June 17 off the coast of Portland.
An inquest was opened into his death at Bournemouth Town Hall yesterday.
Coroner's officer Ken McEwan said Oscar and his family had travelled to Portland from their home in Solihull, West Midlands, on May 27.
The trip was made with the intention of going 'free diving', a form of underwater diving without the use of breathing apparatus.
Mr McEwan said: "Oscar entered the water late afternoon and the alarm was raised when he did not return to the surface. A search was conducted by the RNLI and the police.
"On June 17 a member of the public alerted emergency services to a body located in the water. That body was recovered and family identified it as Oscar Montgomery."
A cause of death has not yet been ascertained.
The inquest was adjourned until March 3 next year.
