A WOMAN who sustained life-changing injuries after she was hit by a lorry in a Sherborne car park remains in hospital nearly three weeks later, as police re-appealed for witnesses.

As previously reported, Dorset Police received a report of a collision involving a MAN 18T HGV and a pedestrian in the Waitrose car park on Cheap Street at 12.08pm on Thursday, October 29.

Police officers, along with the ambulance service, responded to the incident as officers closed nearby roads.

The pedestrian – a woman aged in her 70s from Sturminster Newton – was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with injuries that are believed to be life-changing.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed the woman remains in hospital as she continues to recover from her serious injuries.

He said: “The injured woman is still in hospital and there is no further update on her condition.

“Our investigation remains ongoing and there have been no arrests.”

Residents and shoppers in the area at the time reported seeing a large emergency service presence in the area as officers responded to the incident.

Traffic on nearby Newland and Hound Street was also affected as people avoided the area.

An investigation continues into the incident as Dorset Police urges anyone who saw what happened or has any dashcam footage to come forward.

Police Constable Donal Doyle, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would ask for any witnesses to please come forward.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the car park at the relevant time and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage for anything that might assist our investigation.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which were necessary to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to be carried out.”
