MORE than 50 cases of coronavirus have been recorded at Bournemouth’s universities in the last week.

Bournemouth University (BU) and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) released their weekly updates.

BU’s update said: “We are continuing to see a small number of new cases at the university. The number of new positive cases at the university in the last seven days stands at 42 across the whole BU population of 1,723 staff and 16,606 students.

“This figure is the number of new cases reported to us, regardless of location, with some members of the BU community working and studying outside the BCP area.

“These cases are distributed throughout the university and there is no significant outbreak in any particular course, hall of residence or other part of the institution.

“We have a clearly defined process for managing all cases and for supporting staff and students who may need to self-isolate.”

Meanwhile, 12 AUB students tested positive for the virus. No staff members did.

AUB’s update said: “The university isn't currently experiencing a Covid-19 outbreak and AUB cases have not been seen in specific areas, levels of study or cohorts.”
