A black labrador fell off a cliff and broke its leg on Portland.

Portland Bill and Wyke coastguard rescue teams were called at around 9.45am yesterday to reports that a dog was in need of rescue.

A black labrador called Lenny had fallen from the top of a cliff and sustained a broken leg on impacting the ground at the bottom. His owner found a safe way to walk in and comfort him whilst awaiting recovery.

A Wyke CRT spokesperson said: "We arrived on scene and immediately began setting up a technical rope rescue system to enable recovery. Two team members accessed the casualty site from the bottom and decided the quickest and least traumatic method of extraction for Lenny would be directly up the cliff. His injury was stabilised before the short ride to the top in our animal rescue bag and swiftly on to the vets."
