DORSET Police has said it will rise to the challenge of new restrictions and regulations, as Dorset prepares to head into Tier 2.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The government has announced the next stage in their efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus as we move out of Tier 4 restrictions as a nation, and move into localised tiers on 2 December.

“Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have been placed within Tier 2.

“Plans are already being considered both internally and with our partners to meet this challenge.

“Although we will have the challenge of more legislation and differing restrictions, this should not affect our overall service delivery and making our communities safe and we must continue to lead our communities and staff through the pandemic.

“Our neighbouring forces are facing the same issues and we will be discussing contingencies with them over the coming days.

“We understand the impact today’s update will have on our public and of course businesses across our force area. We appreciate the sacrifices you have made so far and we urge you all to remain responsible and play your part in helping to reduce the spread of this deadly virus.”

The force has said it will continue to enforce the restrictions.

The spokesperson added: “We continue to urge people to abide by the regulations put in place by the Government, as we have throughout this public health crisis, to help keep themselves and others safe. Enforcement action will be taken when reasonable, proportionate and in line with Covid-19 regulations.”
