A DRIVE-IN cinema is coming to Weymouth to show festive films and help spread some Christmas cheer.

Dorset-based events company, CSL Event Tech, will be showing three films every day between December 19 and 24 on a large LED screen, which will be installed at the Mount Pleasant Park and Ride.

As previously reported, the Park and Ride site will also host a drive-in nativity screening on December 15, 16 and 17, which has been organised by volunteers from churches across Weymouth and Portland.

Now it's been revealed Christmas films will also be screened in a separate venture.

The films being shown include Love Actually, The Polar Express, The Holiday and Home Alone, and there will also be special sing-a-long screenings of The Greatest Showman and Frozen. Tickets cost £30 per car.

In an effort to make the event Covid-secure, staff at the drive-in cinema screenings will wear face coverings, hand sanitiser will be available on site and the toilets will be cleaned every 30 minutes.

Visitors will not need to leave their cars at any time, however, they must wear face coverings while outside of their cars and follow social distancing guidelines.

There will be a selection of local food vendors with a waiter service so guests can use their phone to order food directly to their car window.

James Williams, of Loaded Dogs N Fries, said: "We are super excited to be teaming up with CSL Event Tech and serving our food to the people of Dorset this Christmas for their new Drive In Cinema.

"We will be having our loaded hotdogs, loaded fries, bubble waffles, crepes & popcorn.”

Caleb Morris, managing director of CSL Event Tech, said: "Weymouth's community has always been in my heart. I wanted to give Weymouth something different this Christmas as I believe it is important for families to feel festive at this time.

"This year has been like no other and it breaks my heart to think that people worried about their health will be stuck inside all winter. This will offer just a small escape."

Shows will take at 1pm, 4.30pm and 8pm each day on the six days leading up to Christmas. Upon arrival, visitors will receive an audio receiver and an aux cable that can be plugged into a car audio system or a wireless speaker which will be provided.

Mr Morris added: "After such a disappointing year, and watching many Christmas events be cancelled, it's nice to have something to look forward to."

The event has been sponsored by Sparkylee Electrical, All Secure Storage, Pennywise Independent Financial Advisers, Active Mobility, Weyline Taxis and Perfect Day Wedding Services.
