I was upset to see groups of people on Weymouth Beach once again crowding the seal...on shore and in the sea.
To state the obvious: it is a wild animal.
It is not a pet, a plaything or an appendage to someone’s attention seeking social media account. The tamer it becomes, the more habituated to people, the more vulnerable it becomes in the wild.
It also needs to rest on the beach, which it can’t do if people with dogs stand over it on the tideline!
We can all enjoy this marvellous spectacle...but at a sensible distance. Let’s behave like responsible adults and not feckless children.
