A MAN has been charged after a Weymouth FC match was interrupted by a pitch invader.

As reported, a person was seen to run onto the pitch at the Bob Lucas Stadium during the Terras' match against Halifax Town at the weekend.

The match, broadcast live on BT Sport, saw the Terras play in front of supporters at the stadium for the first time in several months.

Aaron Philip Gould, 21, of Dorchester, has been charged with entering a playing area during a football match on Saturday, December 5.

He will appear at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Friday, January 8, 2021.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We received a report shortly before 7pm on Saturday, December 5 that officers on duty at a match at Weymouth Football Club had arrested a man following a report of a pitch infringement.

“A 21-year-old man from Dorchester has been charged with going into a playing area at a football match and is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 8, 2021."
