A POP-UP kitchen which specialises in locally-sourced seasonal produce is looking to make its mark in West Dorset.

When Andy Tyrell and Joel Gostling both found themselves out of work as a direct result of the first lockdown, they decided combine their skillsets to set up a pop-up kitchen.

The duo first set up the Goose and Badger in Lyme Regis in July, and have now decided to take on Bridport - opening up at the Soulshine Café in South Street throughout December.

The pair have previously worked together at the River Cottage HQ in Axminster, where Joel was the restaurant manager and Andy was the head chef.

The Goose and Badger opened up for the first time in Bridport last Saturday and proved a popular decision in spite of the wet weather.

At the beginning of the summer Andy and Joel both found themselves out of work due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Andy was running a catering company which was heavily impacted by the cancellation of mass gatherings whilst Joel was spending time in Aquaba in Jordan - but had to come home after just three weeks due to Covid-related travel restrictions.

Joel said: “Andy rung me and asked if I wanted to help set up a pop up kitchen. It was a bit of a last-minute impulse decision. We opened at the pop-up kitchen in Lyme Regis in July. We had to open on a Monday because it was the only space left but it actually ended up being pretty popular, it was a nice day and Lyme Regis is busy in the summer.”

“What I love about our place is that I often take a step back and I think I would genuinely love to eat here. We offer good quality food and a nice, relaxed environment.

“Andy has been a chef for seven-years and he’s all about local, sustainable produce, he knows all the suppliers and where to get all the best food.”

Joel added: “I’m all for fine dining and Michelin star restaurants but sometimes it can feel a bit stuffy – we want to be more relaxed. We’re all about good quality food and service in a relaxed environment that everyone will be comfortable in.” To book call Joel on 07762 111074 or email gooseandbadger12@gmail.com.
