Town councillors will raise no objections to a proposal to reduce the number of homes being planned on a former nightclub site in High West Street, Dorchester, from nine to six.

The council’s planning committee heard that there had also been changes to the skyline of the development although six car parking spaces had been retained.

Cllr Gareth Jones welcomed the reduction in the number of proposed homes saying that he thought the previous scheme was an over-development.

He told the committee he remained concerned about the safety of the access, through a narrow entrance close to the Top o’ Town roundabout which was busy with both pedestrians and vehicles.

Cllr Ralph Ricardo also welcomed the proposed reduction in the number of homes saying he would prefer a good quality development rather than a larger number of homes in the location.

Existing businesses on the site are continuing to trade as normal.
