A KIND-HEARTED six-year-old from Dorset will definitely be making it on to Santa’s ‘nice’ list this year – after asking him to send presents for poorly youngsters less fortunate than herself.

And Gracie-Leigh Gajic’s Christmas wish has come true.

After the youngster’s proud mum, Bethany, posted on social media about Gracie-Leigh’s plea, the family has been inundated with hundreds of pounds worth of gifts.

The appeal caught the attention of a Dorset Council family worker and they are now being distributed to more than 50 families with children with complex needs and disabilities across the county.

Bethany said she couldn’t be more proud of her daughter, a pupil at Swanage Primary School.

She added: “She wrote her Christmas list in her bedroom and then came down to us, and on it she had asked for poorly children. She said it wasn’t fair that some children wouldn’t get presents.

“She did an appeal through her school and I posted on social media. We were expecting maybe a few gifts to come in but we have been inundated with hundreds of gifts.

“There’s colouring books, stationery, games, chocolates – just everything. We are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity.

“She’s such a kind girl and will always ask to stop to get food for homeless people if we’re shopping, for example, but has never mentioned doing anything like this before. I am so proud of her.”

Gracie-Leigh and Bethany were invited to Dorset Council’s offices at Westport House, Wareham, to see the presents being packed up ready to be sent out to youngsters.

The generous youngster said she felt proud of her good deed and knowing so many young people would benefit.

She is also hoping Santa will bring her a dressing table, dressing gown and scooter on Christmas Day.

Tracy Hagelburg, a family worker at Dorset Council’s Children’s Services who spotted Bethany’s toy appeal, said: “This year has been particularly hard with accessing toy appeals, however I came across a story on Facebook about a little girl wanting help poorly children.

“Gracie-Leigh had written on her Christmas wish list that she wanted presents for poorly people. Parents felt that this was something that couldn’t be left and wanted to support her to make her wish come true.

“I approached Bethany and mentioned that I worked for Children’s Services and we have families that would benefit from such kindness.

“I, personally, have been totally blown away by the sheer generosity and care that this little girl has to offer those not as fortunate as herself. Her generosity and kindness is going to put smiles on so many children’s faces on Christmas morning.”
