MORE than 2,000 properties in West Dorset were without power following a large cable fault.

2,052 homes were suddenly without electricity in Beaminster at 10.30pm on Monday, December 28, with residents without power for nearly an hour.

Western Power Distribution, which provides electricity in the area, was able to restore power to a majority of affected residents at 11.25pm.

82 properties were without electricity for two hours before engineers restored power to these properties at 12.30am on Tuesday, December 29.

A spokeswoman for Western Power Distribution apologised for any disruption caused in the area and said engineers will be in the area investigating the issue today.

She said: “It was an underground cable fault and it affected 2,052 customers at 10.30pm on Monday, December 28 in the Beaminster area.

“By 11.25pm, 1,070 customers had their power back on.

“Power for the remaining 82 properties were restored at 12.30am on Tuesday. Today we will be in the area investigating the fault.”
