A road in north Dorset was closed due to a police 'incident' which is believed to have involved a caravan fire.

Firefighters have been dealing with the blaze after being called out about 5am.

The road was reopened about 9am.

Police have now said a man was found injured following the blaze. See the story here.

Earlier, Gillingham Fire Station said the B3081 had been closed between Gillingham and Bourton crossroads while crews deal with an 'incident'.

The Travel Dorset service said a caravan fire had led to the road being closed between the West Bourton turn-off and Longbury Hill Lane (turn-off to North Dorset Rugby Club).

It said the incident was affecting all traffic between the A303 and Gillingham.

A diversion was in place via the A303 through Mere.

North Dorset Police said it happened at Woodhouse Cross.

They said: "Police incident B3081 Gillingham at Woodhouse Cross. Road closed due to ongoing police incident. No access to A303 and Wincanton. Please find alternative route. A303 accessible at Mere junction."

In a later post they said: "B3081 now open after earlier incident. Thank you for your patience with diversions."
