The letter from Manor Renewable Energy in support of the proposed incinerator at Portland is very convincing IF you disregard completely all the available evidence on pollution arising from this form of energy production.
I can understand that cruise ships and their in-port diesel generators create pollution at present and that this source of pollution would be avoided if more power was available within the port so that the cruise ships did not have to produce their own - diesel - energy.
However, can this in itself justify acceptance of biofuel’s output of particulates etc or the pollution produced by the increased traffic?
Manor’s business would apparently benefit from the proposed incinerator but that wouldn’t benefit the air quality for residents or the carbon footprint of the scheme; the CEO of Portland Port says he doesn’t have any concerns about local air quality or the plant’s carbon footprint, but he also doesn’t present any evidence to counteract the objectors’ arguments.
