FORMER consulting rooms at Abbotsbury Road GP surgery in Weymouth could be converted into a home.

Dorset Council has received an outline planning request from Dr Suzanne Roberts to convert the rooms at the 24 Abbotsbury Road property into seven one and two-bed flats.

The proposal for the Edwardian end of terrace three storey property, which has a modern two storey rear extension stretching into Holland Road, was used until March 2019 as a GP surgery.

It has three parking spaces to the rear which will remain.

The application says the external appearance of the building will be largely unaltered apart from some new windows.

Comments on the application remain open until the end of January.

An adjoining consulting room at No 26, which is above the chemists shop has been granted permission for the conversion of three former consulting rooms into a one-bed flat with a living/kitchen room and a shower room.

The rooms were previously linked to the surgery building at No 24.

An application form claims that the conversion of the GP surgery into flats will be in keeping with other buildings in the area and a good use for the building, adding a modest number of homes to help meet the acknowledged local need for smaller properties close to the town centre.
