A MAN was cut free from a vehicle and taken to hospital after being trapped following a crash on a key road in North Dorset. 

The collision, which partially blocked the road, involved two vehicles  before 1pm on Friday, January 15 on the A357 at Rolls Hill, near to the junction for Puxey Lane in Sturminster Newton.

Firefighters from Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum were called to the scene where they cut a trapped man free using cutting equipment. 

The man, aged in his 50s, was transported to a hospital. Firefighters left the scene before 1.30pm. 

A spokeswoman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 12.58pm with reports of a road traffic collision on the A357 at Rolls Hill.

"Two crews from Sturminster Newton along with one from Blandford responded to the incident.

"Two vehicles were involved and one person of one of the vehicles had to be extricated using cutting equipment. The casualty, male in his 50’s was taken to hospital by road ambulance."

Traffic maps at the time also reported delays in the area and motorists who made essential journeys were advised to allow extra travel time. The road was cleared after 2.30pm and traffic returned to normal soon after.
