THE Bournemouth Covid vaccination centre officially opens today.

The new centre, at the BIC, will vaccinate more than 9,000 people a week when it is running at capacity.

To begin with, 400 people will be vaccinated each day with the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine.

People will be sent a letter when it is their turn to book their appointment, and they can then do so online or over the phone.

More than 400 staff will be working in the BIC 12 hours a day, seven days a week to ramp up the coronavirus vaccination programme.

As reported, Dawn Dawson, Dorset Healthcare’s director of nurding, said: “After the last 10 months where the NHS staff have worked really hard, to be part of something now that is a way out of the pandemic is massively exciting and it’s quite an emotional thing to be part of.

“We’re really experienced in providing vaccination services, including flu jabs and school immunisations, and we will use that skill to give our patients a positive, safe and efficient experience at the vaccination centre.”
