COASTGUARDS have rescued a 'vulnerable' elderly man who fell into reeds at Radipole Lake after stepping off his mobility scooter.
Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team was called at around 6.15pm today to reports of a man stuck in the reeds.
"The 82 year old gentleman had fallen from the cycle way having got off his mobility scooter," a coastguard spokesman said.
"Luckily a passing motorist witnessed him having difficulties in the darkness, stopped and dialled 999."
The man was pulled from the reed bed by coastguards before being taken to the safety of a nearby jetty.
"He was kept warm and checked over before being handed into the care of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust," the spokesman added.
"Thanks to Weymouth & Portland Police for their assistance too."
A spokesman for Weymouth & Portland Police said: "PCSO Kelly has been out patrolling local ASB hotspots this evening and is pleased to report no issues.
"Whilst on patrol she was alerted to a vulnerable elderly male who had come off his mobility scooter close to Radipole Lake.
"Many thanks to the member of public who stopped to help the man and alerted coastguard and ambulance. The elderly man is now safe in the care of paramedics."
