FLOoD alerts have been issued across Dorset following wet weather caused by Storm Christoph.
Dorset was hit with heavy rain and winds throughout Wednesday, January 20 and as a result has caused high river levels in some areas of the county.
Flood alerts are currently in force for Middle Stour and tributaries near Blandford Forum, Upper Stour and tributaries in North Dorset and Lower Avon and tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch until Friday, January 22.
Environment Agency say that ‘river levels are high but steady’ but warns residents to ‘expect flooding’ at tributaries.
People were urged to install property flood resilience equipment along the Upper Stour and tributaries on Wednesday evening (January 20).
On the flood alert for Middle Stour and tributaries, a spokesman for Environment Agency said: “River levels are peaking now at Hammoon and will remain high but no further rise is forecast.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures.”
No further weather warnings have been imposed by the Met Office for the next few days which are expected to be dry with conditions turning colder this weekend.
