WEYMOUTH Town Council has said it is with 'great regret' the town's annual Holocaust Memorial Day service has been cancelled due to the national coronavirus lockdown.
The annual event, which usually takes place at the Holocaust Memorial tree in Radipole Park and Garden, was set for January 27.
The memorial service is traditionally hosted by the mayor, currently councillor Graham Winter.
Cllr Winter said: "It's again with great regret that the town council has to announce the cancellation of an important local service.
"The annual Holocaust service is a valuable opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects to the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides."
Holocaust Memorial Day is an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and Tibet.
It marks the day in 1945 when the Auschwitz–Birkenau extermination camp was liberated.
