Dorset needs a Local Plan that meets the needs of local people.

What we don’t need is a developer-led free-for-all.

But that plan should be credible, reflect local need, based on full consultation with communities, businesses and local people.

The plan should offer local homes for local people, including truly affordable homes. And it should respect and protect Dorset’s environment, our greatest economic asset.

The future health of everyone as well as our economy depends on this.

MPs, local councils and Dorset CPRE all have real concerns, that this emerging local plan is a rushed mishmash of old ideas and lacks imagination.

Furthermore, housing numbers calculated by a standardised “algorithm” are not set in stone.

Dorset’s unique environment requires a local approach, which meets the housing needs of local people, while at the same time conserving our beautiful county.
