A MASS vaccination clinic has been set up at Weymouth Pavilion - with theatre bosses welcoming the opportunity to play a role in the coronavirus recovery effort.

The clinic, which is based at the Pavilion’s Ocean Rooms, opened on Sunday - with over 1,400 residents receiving the jab on the first day alone.

Commenting on the important role the theatre will play in the recovery from Covid-19, Phil Say, managing director of Weymouth Pavilion, said: “It is good to be part of a historical moment and to be playing our part for the community by providing facilities for the NHS, so that we can help in the efforts to vaccinate the majority of the people of Weymouth and Portland.

“More than 1,400 vaccinations were administered on Sunday.

“The first day went very well - we’re pleased, the NHS is pleased - and obviously over 1,400 people who were vaccinated are also very pleased.

“Dependent on vaccine availability, the intention is that the clinic is going to be held here for some time.”

The jabs are being administered to those who have appointments only.

A spokesman for Dorset CCG said:“The additional vaccination clinic which the team ran over the weekend at the Weymouth Pavilion was really well received and we are delighted that so many people came along to get their jab. Feedback was really positive from those who attended and this is testament to the efforts of everyone involved.”

Other mass vaccination sites in the area include Weymouth Community Hospital and the Atrium Healthcare Centre in Dorchester.

Meanwhile, Dorset Council, which operates the Pavilion Car Park, has said the car park will be closed to the general public between 7am to 4pm, and is urging people not to park there unless attending the clinic.

However free parking is available for patients getting their vaccine, as well as staff and volunteers at the clinic.

“Please help the Covid-19 vaccination clinic in Weymouth run smoothly and only use this car park if you’re attending the clinic in The Pavilion Ocean Room,” a council spokesman said.

Residents aged over 70 who have not had the jab are urged to book an appointment by going online at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination - or by calling 119. If a suitable and convenient slot is not available people can also call their GP practice.
