AN URGENT warning has been issued for people to stay away from Castle Cove Beach in Weymouth due to timbers from a boat deck blowing loose amid high winds.
Officials from Portland Port have now been called as heavy timber from the deck is being washed out to sea. Coastguards have also been alerted.
People are also warned not to swim on nearby coastline as debris is being washed towards Sandsfoot beach and sailing club.
Planks of wood and debris are posing a risk to pedestrians and boat users, the Friends of Castle Cove group says.
Steve Elsworth of the Friends of Castle Cove group said: "The boat deck on Castle Cove Beach has erupted in the storm: large timers are everywhere. Serious danger to marine traffic and pedestrians.
"Looks very dangerous as wood is full of rusty nails.
Mr Elsworth added in an update: "Things are happening very quickly. Portland Port sending a clean up team. Timber being washed out to sea and down the coast. We are warning swimmers and dog walkers to stay away."
The coastguard has been notified Mr Elsworth has confirmed.
"Large timbers are being swept out to sea and carried down the coast to Sandsfoot beach, near the sailing club," he added.
"Stay out of the water, keep away from the beach. The tide is ebbing, so wood will be pulled into the sea; with another high tide tonight.
"Depending on the wind, could be hairy again. Keep well away."
