The speed and efficiency of our vaccine rollout is a source of national pride.

The Government has met its 15th February target of vaccinating the four highest priority groups, with over 15.5 million people across the UK having received their first dose as of Monday.

This is a tremendous success and I pay tribute to the NHS staff, GPs, scientists, military personnel, volunteers, and all others involved here in Dorset.

Everyone aged 65 and over can now book their vaccination by calling 119 or visiting the NHS website.

Last Wednesday was a busy day in the House of Commons.

At Transport Select Committee in the morning, I pointed out that London buses enjoy considerably more funding per journey when compared to rural areas like Dorset. As the Government levels-up the country, it is vital that rural communities remain connected.

And on Wednesday afternoon, I supported Dorset Police. I was delighted to see the Government recently announce £7.7 million more funding for Dorset Police and 39 more police officers. I spoke up for Dorset, again, so that it gets its fair share of Government funding.

On Thursday last week, I spoke at a packed-out online meeting about the North of Dorchester development, organised by the campaign group, STAND.

I’ve written in this column previously about my opposition to the development – is not accepted by the local community and would irrevocably change the character of our historic county town. I would much rather see fair housing to support the viability across the whole of Dorset, not condensed to Dorchester.

To share your views on this matter, I would encourage you to respond to Dorset Council’s Local Plan consultation which runs until 15th March and to inform your local Dorset Councillor of your view. To find out more, visit my website at www.chrisloder.co.uk/norchester
