FIREFIGHTERS from Sherborne were called over the Dorset-Somerset border to assist with an accidental shed fire.

One fire engine from Sherborne was called to assist Yeovil Fire Station with a blaze that involved a shed and fence in Parish Mews, Yeovil at 4.35pm on Wednesday, February 17.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the shed, which contained a tumble dryer and garden tools, was well alight and quickly set to work to extinguish the blaze.

A fire service spokesman said the shed was 'totally destroyed' by the fire, a fence was damaged while soffits and guttering of a neighbouring property sustained heat damage. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.

A spokesman for Sherborne Fire Station said: "One fire appliance from Sherborne and one appliance from Yeovil Fire Station, were sent to a report of a shed on fire.

"On arrival, crews confirmed garden shed and fence were well alight and requested further assistance. Another fire appliance from Martock Fire Station was sent to assist.

"The shed contained a tumble dryer and garden tools and was totally destroyed by the fire. There was 50 per cent fire damage to a fence and heat damage to the soffits and guttering of a neighbouring property.

"The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet. The cause of the fire was accidental."
