A NEW pizza business is opening its doors in Weymouth later this year, with dozens of jobs set to be created.

Sbarro is an American pizzeria chain that specialises in New York-style pizza and other Italian-American cuisine, which has began opening new branches in the UK, starting with Birmingham.

The fast-food chain describes itself as being ‘one of the largest quick service Italian chains in the world’ and uses ‘premium secret ingredients and signature recipes’.

Online job advertisements for an assistant manager and manager at the Sbarro branch appeared to confirm a new outlet was opening in the Weymouth area.

A spokesman for Euro Garages, which is in partnership with the pizza brand, said the new Sbarro branch will open in April.

Dorset Echo understands that between 30 to 35 jobs will be created as a result of the store opening.

The location has not yet been confirmed by Euro Garages or Sbarro, but the job listing implies it will be in the Chickerell area.

Its job advertisements are looking for employees who can ‘provide a fantastic customer service experience’ and ‘be happy, friendly, smile and have fun’.

According to other branches in the UK, hungry customers can either buy individual slices of New York-style pizza with a drink or order a whole pizza to takeaway.

Its Birmingham branch allows people to pay a 12-inch pizza from £7.95 onwards or a 17-inch pizza from as low as £11.95.

A spokesman for Sbarro in November 2020 said they had partnered with EG Group to help open several new branches in 2020 and 2021.

Sbarro CEO David Karam said at the time: “The partnership with EG Group is very exciting. It’s a natural fit between the two brands.

“While pizza has been a top-selling food item in convenience stores for many years, Sbarro offers premium quality pizza, Stromboli and other menu items that are freshly prepared each day in store.

“We pioneered the concept of pizza-by-the-slice in our first location in Brooklyn, New York in 1956, and have retained the made from scratch recipes ever since.

“As the trend continues to shift towards freshly prepared and higher quality food offerings in the convenience store segment, Sbarro is an ideal partner for a great brand like EG Group.”

The news comes as Burger King confirmed plans for a new restaurant in the Weymouth area, which will open later this year.
