A ROAD has been closed as emergency services deal with a fire which has completely destroyed a tractor and a trailer in East Dorset.
Police and fire crews were called to the B3081 Station Road in Verwood shortly after 3.30pm on Saturday, February 20.
The road has been closed between Woodlands and the Albion Pub, with the incident near the entrance of Romford Farm.
Fire engines from Verwood and Cranborne stations attended reports of a tractor alight.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service's water carrier from Ringwood was also requested.
Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and foam concentrate to extinguish the blaze.
Environment Agency packs were also used to avoid damage to the River Crane, which is located nearby.
A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the crews, the vehicles were 100 per cent destroyed by fire."
A Verwood Fire Station spokesperson said because of the amount of spilt oil and fuel the road surface would require attention of the local authority before reopening.
At around 5.15pm, East Dorset Police asked motorists and other road uses to find alternative routes, with the road remaining closed for at least another hour.
