FOUR people were detained and armed police called after two men were injured in a violent disturbance outside a Dorset off licence.

Emergency services were called after a man was found in possession of a knife following the incident at the Star off licence in Bournemouth Road, Poole.

Two men, both who had suffered injuries, were found in nearby Ashley Road at 8.15pm last night.

They were taken to hospital for treatment before being released and taken into custody.

A third man and a woman were later arrested in connection with the incident.

Witnesses said several police vehicles and around 12 armed officers were at the scene in Ashley Road at one point.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Officers attended and two men were subsequently found with injuries in Ashley Road. One of the men was reportedly found in possession of a knife.

"A 26-year-old Poole man was arrested on suspicion of affray and a 22-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

"Both men were taken to hospital for treatment before being released and taken into police custody."

Following further enquiries, a 33-year-old Poole man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and affray and a 41-year-old woman from Poole was arrested on suspicion of affray.

All four of those arrested are assisting detectives with their enquiries as their investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of Bournemouth CID, said: "We are carrying out a detailed investigation into this incident and I would like to hear from anyone who was in area of Bournemouth Road between around 8pm and 8.15pm on Monday February 22 and witnessed the reported altercation or any suspicious activity.

"I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage for anything relevant.

"There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area as we investigate this matter and officers can be approached by members of the public with any concerns."
