A DRIVER has been injured after crashing into a house on the Weymouth to Dorchester relief road.

The man lost control of his vehicle due to a 'mechanical issue', the fire service said, and has been taken to hospital.

The single-vehicle collision triggered a major emergency response this afternoon, with police and ambulance crews also in attendance.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 12:40 today to reports of a single vehicle RTC on the Ridgeway near Bincome.

"One crew from Dorchester attended and on arrival found a vehicle had hit a house after the driver exeprienced a mechanical issue with the vehicle."

The driver had managed to escape from the vehicle by the time crews arrived.

"No action was required by the crew to assist releasing the driver," the spokesman added.

"Driver was left in the care of the ambulance service and the stop message came in at 12:51"

Drivers were warned of heavy traffic during the incident while emergency services worked at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.42pm to a report of a single vehicle collision off the A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth.

"Officers attended with the fire and ambulance services. During the incident, a man was injured and was taken to hospital for treatment."

The road has now reopened.
