DORSET'S popular family music festival Camp Bestival is set to go ahead this summer following the Government announcement on the lockdown easing roadmap.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson set out details on Monday about how restrictions would be lifted in the months ahead, with a target of June 21 for removing all legal limits on social contact.

If this goes to plan the British summer festival season can return after being axed last year as Covid swept across the country and restrictions were in place over the summer months.

Yesterday, Reading and Leeds Festival confirmed that they intended to go ahead in August 2021.

And now Camp Bestival, which has entertained thousands of people at Lulworth Castle for many years, has followed suit.

In a statement, Camp Bestival curator Rob da Bank said: “There is literally nothing Josie and I like more in life than standing in a field surrounded by family and friends, dressed in daft outfits dancing to amazing bands and DJs... and Mr Tumble... and that’s exactly what we plan to be doing at Camp Bestival in 154 days, 15 hours and 27 minutes... not that we’re counting.”

The positive news for the family summer festival comes just two days after organisers of the Great Dorset Steam Fair said the event was cancelled again.

Last month, the Daily Echo reported that preparations were still pressing on for this year's Camp Bestival despite Glastonbury's decision to cancel.

Camp Bestival is set to return from Thursday, July 29, to Sunday, August 1, with the line-up already confirmed.

Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Kelis and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are among the headline acts.

Vengaboys, Louise Redknapp, The Wurzles and Heather Small are among other musical acts lined up to perform at the movie-themed event, whilst children will be entertained by Dick and Dom, Sam & Mark, Mr Tumble and Mister Maker & Rebecca Keatley.

A standalone comedy tent will be set up in the castle grounds featuring Dom Joly and Irvine Welsh, whilst Fred Siriex, of Channel 4’s First Dates fame, will curate the festival’s food and drinks offering.

Camp Festival has now been running for more than a decade and has won the best family festival honour in the UK Festival Awards on mulitple occasions.
