A KEY route into Gillingham will be shut for more than a week for roadworks.

B3092 New Road, between junctions for B3081 Newbury and Cole Street Lane, will be closed in both directions between Monday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 17.

A public notice states the roadworks are for drainage maintenance and a road closure is necessary for the works to be safely carried out.

It reads: “This Temporary Traffic Management Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works.

“A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.”

The diversion route will be signposted but motorists can follow their own unofficial routes to bypass the 0.68-mile road closure. Residents in the area have already been informed about the road closure via a letter.
