A LARGE offshore supply ship which was stationed at Portland Port has departed for its next destination.
MPI Adventure, an offshore supply ship owned by Dutch maritime contractor Van Oord, was moored off Portland on February 25, but set off for a ‘maintenance campaign’ around 7.30pm on Wednesday.
The vessel, which is used for turbine installation projects, set off on a voyage to Ormonde Windfarm - off the coast of Walney, in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
Bregje van Rij, spokesman for Van Oord, said: “Our offshore installation vessel MPI Adventure [had] indeed stopped in Portland to load out spare wind turbine components.
"We depart for a maintenance campaign in the Irish Sea.”
The vessel set off to the windfarm just off Walney - sailing at a speed of 0.2 knots and expected to arrive there around 4pm tomorrow.
Prior to its arrival at Portland, MPI Adventure came from the port of Vlissingen in Holland.
The voyage from Vlissingen to Portland took five days and nine hours.
MPI Adventure, which is 136 metres long, was put into service in 2011 as the next generation of offshore installation and maintenance vessel.
