A NEW police constable for Portland Port Police was sworn in at Weymouth Magistrates Court this week.
Jason Barnes attended the court, along with Portland Port Police Sergeant, Chris Grant, to be attested to the office of Constable on Thursday, March 4.
Police Sergeant, Chris Grant, said in court it was a 'monumental day' for PC Barnes and an 'amazing achievement' for his career.
PC Barnes read out a declaration before it was signed by himself and the two sitting magistrates in the court.
Chair of Magistrates, Mike Davies, told PC Barnes: "It is a superb code to live by and if you do all the things you swore, that would be a wonderful thing.
"You are now a police constable which gives you responsibility even off duty which you have to bare in mind. All I can say is to wish you well.”
PS Chris Grant said: "We are pleased to welcome Constable Barnes, he brings many years of related experience and knowledge with him and will be a great addition to the team."
Bill Reeves, CEO of Portland Port said: "It was a proud day for the new Constable and Portland Port.
"As our business continues to expand, the increased capacity of our Portland Port Police Service will bring additional security to the port, its tenants, customers and users.”
