AN INMATE was caught with a mobile phone in his cell in a North Dorset prison, a court heard.

Mujtaba Ali, aged 27, was caught with a Zanco mobile phone, mains charger and a charging cable at his cell in HMP Guys Marsh on Monday, July 6, 2020.

Ali, now of HMP Exeter, had his case heard at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 19, where he pleaded guilty to possession of the prohibited items .

It was described as a ‘serious’ offence in court as a mobile phone is a banned device in prison, and there are ‘very serious consequences to be in possession of a mobile phone within prison’.

Magistrates sentenced Ali to two months in prison, which will run consecutively to his existing jail sentence.

Ali was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
